Overcoming Barriers to Employment
IMPACT STORY
One of our BOOST Program participants faced repeated setbacks in her journey to secure employment. After being unable to land the same position with an employer on three prior occasions, she was given another opportunity to interview. However, nervousness and self-doubt weighed heavily on her as the interview approached.
To support her, her Success Coach scheduled several mock interviews to help her practice and build confidence. Together, they reviewed commonly asked interview questions, drafted thoughtful answers, and refined her responses. Just hours before her scheduled interview, they conducted one final mock session to ensure she felt fully prepared.
Shortly after the interview, the client called her Success Coach with incredible news—she had been offered the job! She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the assistance, noting that nearly all the questions they practiced were asked during the real interview. This success marked a pivotal moment in her career journey, highlighting how tailored support and preparation can make all the difference.
IMPACT STORY
At just 23 years old, one of our HEY MA program participants, a mother of five (newborn, 6, 5, 4, and 3), faced overwhelming challenges. Struggling to provide for her children, she needed assistance with obtaining WIC, securing food, pursuing her GED, finding employment, and accessing childcare. Without stable work experience or a strong support system, she felt uncertain about her future.
With the guidance of her Success Coach and the resources provided through the HEY MA program, she began turning her situation around. The client successfully enrolled in WIC services to meet her family’s nutritional needs. With help from her Success Coach, she obtained a laptop and enrolled in a GED program, taking a vital step toward achieving her educational goals.
Her determination and the program’s support paid off as she secured permanent employment. This milestone also qualified her for childcare assistance, providing a stable foundation for her family. Today, she has exceeded the goals set in her service plan, demonstrating incredible resilience and commitment to creating a brighter future for herself and her children.

IMPACT STORY
When Big Sis Inc. encountered a young mother who was 30 weeks pregnant and homeless with two small children, it was clear that immediate action was needed to ensure her health and well-being. She was squatting in downtown Orlando, visibly pregnant but without access to prenatal care, and struggling to provide for her family.
Our team acted swiftly, connecting her with a doctor to begin prenatal care and helping her children enroll in VPK to stabilize their early education. We arranged a hotel stay for a week, providing meals and transportation during this critical period to give her some breathing room. Beyond meeting her immediate needs, we collaborated with another local organization to provide her temporary shelter and to explore more sustainable options.
During conversations with her, we discussed the importance of a strong support network for long-term stability. We helped her recognize that moving back to New York, where she had family and resources, would provide her and her children with a better foundation for the future. She agreed, and we assisted with the travel arrangements for her relocation.
Weeks later, she contacted us to share her good news: she had safely given birth to her baby, secured housing, and was settling into a stable life with the support of her family. She expressed her gratitude for the care and guidance she received, crediting Big Sis Inc. for helping her realize the importance of prioritizing her health and building a better future for her children.
